Several microclimates are available in Del Norte County, ranging from mild along the coast to much warmer inland along the Smith River. On the coast, average temperatures range from 40-55 degrees in winter to 55-70 degrees in summer. Inland temperatures average about 5-10 degrees warmer in summer.

Coastal average annual rainfall is 65-70 inches. Rainfall tends to be large amounts over short periods of time, with extended sunny days throughout the winter. Also known for its renowned "Indian Summer", which can extend into the second week of November.
